The Cape Perpetua Collaborative is hosting a Young Scientist Webinar Series featuring graduate students and postdocs sharing their ocean research.

October – April, this series takes place on the second Tuesday of the month from 5:30pm to 6:30 p.m.

November 9: Marine Mammals Before Extirpation: Using Archaeology to Understand Native American Use of Sea Otters in Oregon Prior to European Contact

December 14: Thinking pink: Investigating the impacts of ocean acidification and warming on larval Oregon pink shrimp
Presenting: Michelle Baotran Nguyen, Masters of Science at University of Oregon

January 11: Traveling Tuna: Using genetic approaches to understand stock structure of Pacific Albacore
Presenting: Geoffrey Walker, Graduate student in the State Fisheries Genomics Lab under the supervision of Dr. Kathleen O’Malley

February 8: Uncovering the impacts of environmental identities and worldviews (EID) on early adolescents’ perceptions and awareness on local marine issues
Presenting: Shu-Min Tsai (Janet), Ph.D. student at Oregon State University

March 8: Individual behavioral specializations in gray whales documented through drone-based observation
Presenting: Clara Bird, 3rd year Wildlife Science Ph.D. student in the Geospatial Ecology of Marine Megafauna (GEMM) lab at Oregon State University under the supervision of Dr. Leigh Torres

April 12: Employing photography and community science to explore the diets of Oregon’s tufted puffins at Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach
