National Trails Day Celebration and YaXaik Trail Dedication
Come celebrate National Trails Day in Yachats. The theme this year is "interpretation" so plan to join the 11:30 am interpretive tour of the historic 804 Trail, which will depart from the Yachats Commons north parking lot and will be led by State Parks ranger Brian Fowler. Then, at 1 pm join the dedication ceremony for the recently completed YaXaik Trail - a beautiful 1.3 mile loop now open to hikers. Following the dedication you are invited to hike the newest leg of the trail, between Fisterra Gardens Apartments (east end of Diversity Drive) and the Gerdemann Botanic Preserve footpath where US Forest Service seasonal interpreters will point out highlights of your journey. Also following the dedication, you are invited to a reception at the Overleaf Lodge Event Center (280 Overleaf Lodge Lane) to learn more about the natural, historical and cultural stories behind the local scenery. Plan to park in the north parking lot of the Yachats Commons (4th St and Hwy 101 N) where you can catch a shuttle to and from the dedication site and Overleaf Lodge starting at 12:30 pm. We're having a very special event and you're invited! Please join us on Monday June 24, 2013 at The Drift Inn for a Beer Dinner, benefitting the 2013 Yachats Fireworks display. The dinner features food made with and paired with Pelican Brewery beer. Pelican Brewery is located on the north coast in Pacific City Oregon. FIREWORKS IN WALDPORT
Celebrate Waldport's Centennial and enjoy a fabulous display of fireworks over Alsea Bay beginning at dusk. You'll find plenty of sandy beach to enjoy the view. Park at Patterson State Park or park in Waldport to view the festivities from the Historic Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center or along Keady Wayside. Arrive early and build a sand castle, catch Dungeness crab in Alsea Bay, search for sand dollars along miles of sandy beach, toast marshmallows over a bonfire, ride a green bike and then, by all means enjoy the fireworks! VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE

The Queen Ann style Keeper's House will be decorated with Victorian flourishes inside and out. Enjoy warm drinks and treats and performances by local musicians. Santa Claus will be there, and there will be a holiday raffle with great prizes from local businesses. Shuttle service will be offered from Heceta Head Lighstation State Scenic Area parking lot to the front door. Or bring warm, rainproof clothing and a flashlight and enjoy a beautiful walk up from the parking lot/beach. The parking fee is $3 or present your Oregon Coast Passport. FMI: (541) 547-3696. 3rd Annual NEW YEAR'S PEACE WALK
Start the New Year on the right foot! Join the Yachats Trails Committee for an invigorating 6-mile round trip walk from the Commons to the Amanda Statue where the group will offer blessings for peace in the New Year. Hikers will then be invited to walk or shuttle back to the Commons for refreshments and to collect their commemorative Peace Hike button. In the event of heavy rain or wind, a shorter hike on an alternate route will take place. Dress for changeable weather. Wear sturdy shoes and bring your walking sticks. The hike will be on both paved and narrow dirt trail surfaces with some stairs and slight inclines. FMI, contact Lauralee, Email, (541) 547-3640.
