Guided Mushroom Identification Walks
Free guided mushroom walks will leave every hour by shuttle bus from
the Cape Perpetua Visitors Center to selected trailheads.

Family Mushrooms.
11 a.m. -- Led by Jim Bowers, a naturalist who has been involved in
natural history research and teaching on the central Oregon coast for
the past 28 years.
12 noon -- Led by Phil Lamberson of the
Lincoln County Mycological Society.
1 p.m. -- Led by Dr. Nancy Weber,
author, lecturer and scientist specializing in mycology.
2 p.m. -- Led by David Pilz, a
Forest Mycologist with the Department of Forest Science at Oregon
State University in Corvallis. He has worked for 10 years on the
sustainable harvest of chanterelles, morels, and matsutake. Of course,
scientific samples should never go to waste, so he is also an avid
student of "anthromycophagy" and is willing to translate that term for
a few mouthfuls!
3 p.m. -- Led by Molly Widmer, Forest
Botanist for the BLM, and Chris Melotti, a
wildlife and ecology consultant. Molly and Chris are founding members
of the Cascade Mycological Society.
Walks will be held on excellent easy trails in the spectacular coastal mature and old growth forest of Cape Perpetua. Outdoor clothing, sturdy walking shoes/boots, and rainwear are advised. Limited handicapped accessibility. FMI: Cape Perpetua Visitors Center, 541-547-3289.

Author,
lecturer, and scientist specializing in mycology, Nancy S. Weber has
found 330+ mushrooms and other fungi in her Corvallis yard. Dr. Weber
is an associate professor (courtesy) at Oregon State University who
knows how to reveal the fun in fungi. (Free admission.)

Jim Trappe Reveals the "Who, What, Why, When, Where & How of
Truffles."
Globally renowned truffle expert and Professor of Botany and Forest
Science at Oregon State University, Jim Trappe has studied truffle
taxonomy, ecology and uses around the world and has enjoyed every
minute of it! (Free admission.)

Mushroom Cooking Demonstrations
Chef John Ullman from
Bonaventura Specialty Foods will present cooking demonstrations
and recipes inspired by the Italian countryside's custom of festivals
celebrating the fall fungi season. Chef John initiated the Yachats
Village Mushroom Fest 4 years ago--bringing the idea to the Yachats
Area Chamber of Commerce after participating in similar festivals in
Italy, where he has had a Hilltown residence since 1978. (Free
admission.)

Featuring both edible and non-edible local mushrooms in addition to
other fungi including conks, slimes, pelts, moss, and lichens.
